On completing the DMB, participants can apply for entry to the University of Aberdeen’s Digital Marketing Leadership programmes at either Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Masters (MSc) level. We anticipate most participants will initially apply to top up their Professional Certificate with the Postgraduate Certificate (60 credit units made up of two 30 credit unit modules).
The materials have been mapped closely to the Postgraduate Certificate so you will only need to undertake and pass the University’s required assessment (see note 1) for each of these two 30 credit unit modules to achieve this award. Participants can then apply to continue to the Postgraduate Diploma (comprising two further 30 credit unit modules) and on successful completion of these, to the MSc award (comprising a final 30 credit unit module and a 30 credit unit consultancy-based project).
Importantly, there are no exams in the top-up modules, as indeed there are no exams for the whole of the Postgraduate Diploma and MSc awards. The assessment is via a portfolio of work designed to test both participants’ knowledge of digital marketing and how to implement digital marketing strategy and tactics.

For the reflective reviews we give you an issue and ask you to consider it – usually from two perspectives.
For the presentation and the report, we give you a scenario and ask you to act out the part of the role of a digital marketing consultant. For example, an entrepreneur wants some evaluation of their idea and some thoughts about routes to market. You then have to pitch for this piece of work showing to the “client” in a presentation and a report that you understand something of the market, how their idea might be developed and brought to the attention of potential customers. You work on a recorded presentation and submit this. We review this and give you some initial thoughts before you submit your final report.
When can I do this assessment and what are the deadlines?
To take the assessment you must meet the entry requirements for the Postgraduate Certificate and submit an application to start in January, June or September.
The entry requirements for the postgraduate Certificate are normally:
- The equivalent of a good UK honours degree (in any subject) or
- Work experience with a record of achievement.
If you are applying on the work experience basis we would like to see a copy of your CV and may follow this up with a telephone or similar interview.
- For non-native speakers, and those who have not graduated from a programme where English was the medium of instruction, satisfactory evidence of your English language competence.
On meeting the entry requirements, you will then be enrolled. You then work on the assessments in-line with the normal calendar for the full online programme. This means that you will have about four months to complete the assessments (half of the assessment work to be completed in the first 2 months).

If I pass the Postgraduate Certificate can I go further in my studies?
Yes! If successful you can go on to study two further modules up to Postgraduate Diploma level and then further, with two more modules, for the MSc in Digital Marketing Leadership. The current fee for each of these subsequent levels (Diploma and Masters) is £3,250.
